We seek to increase awareness and acceptance of craniofacial conditions in our schools and communities, and ultimately, optimizing the quality of life for those affected by craniofacial birth defects.
Sleep apnea and compromised airways can occur due to a variety of abnormal conditions. The cause of a compromised airway can be determined by careful examination, radiographic studies, and endoscopy. Additionally, a sleep study is often utilized to determine the severity of the airway problem. Many of the craniofacial syndromes we see and treat also have obstructive sleep apnea, which may be caused by a blockage of the airway. In Apert and Crouzon Syndrome, upper airway obstruction can be caused by mid-face deficiency, mandibular deficiency, or both.
You will see how effective treatment will change a child's face and improve their condition as they age. When you support research, you not only improve skills, knowledge, and forms of treatment, you also help improve a child's quality of life. Jaxson was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate.

I, unexpectedly, moved to Utah after the untimely death of my husband. My child is in need of services. I was hoping to find a sympathetic, supportive cleft team to help me navigate my child's medical needs as our grief has been extremely difficult. Sadly, the team left us astray and never told us they don't accept our insurance after I repeatedly documented and shared our insurance in the meeting.

I got a call from the secretary referring us to another team after multiple phone calls of feeling lost and confused. Our journey has been very challenging and wish we had known sooner.

Having experienced a different craniofacial team in the past, I want to sing praises for The Craniofacial Foundation of Utah! The team experience was amazing: informative, friendly, fast, and free! We walked away with all our questions answered, had a better understand of what our child's needs are and the medical path she needs to go down. Doctors Schmelzer and Jones were great along with the speech pathologists, Kimberly Hales and Shane James! Thank you!

Once again, Craniofacial Foundation of Utah exceeded our expectations. I'm grateful for all the doctors, their kindness, attention to detail and in awe of their expertise. The office staff is also extremely helpful and kind. The providers and staff at Craniofacial Foundation of Utah are the true definition of "healthcare." Thank you for all you do for my little cleft cutie and the support you give to my family.

My newborn had her ear reshaped with an EarWell. Dr Morris and staff had a good bedside manner, and Dr. Morris seemed knowledgeable. I knocked off some stars due to billing. I was told it would be $1000 before insurance, but they told me they couldn't quote me what I would be charged and had me sign a waiver saying they did give me a quote. I signed it because I assumed it would be less than $1000, probably a few hundred, and because we couldn't wait any longer to fix the ear.

The website quotes this price as well, however when my bill came it was well over $2000 after insurance. I called them and they said insurance wants them to charge astronomical prices, but they would graciously charge me for the full $1000 since they told me that price. How kind. The earwell did work, but it's not perfect. We might have had better results had I made an earlier appointment. However, the fixed ear sits closer to her head than the other ear does. I think this might bother me more than her original deformady. I regret my decision to "fix" her ear.

How can anyone leave this Dr. a 5 star review. Why doesn't anyone mention he had his privileges revoked at IHC Primary Children's. That is a fact, not slander. He is no longer allowed to operate there due to his performance. So please do not compromise your loved one's safety with this Dr. On a side note, he pushes helmet therapy, after some digging it was clear why, as most Dr.'s do not recommend it, he owns a stake in the helmet company. We were able to get in quick for a plastic surgery consult for my daughter. The doctor we were supposed to see ended up calling in sick that day. Although the one-hour wait was rough, I appreciated not having to cancel or reschedule the appointment. I appreciated the other Dr for fitting us in. I felt confident in the doctor's knowledge and advice as well as the comfort and understanding she provided.

The surgeon Dr. Morris was wonderfull patient and kind, however the frontdesk and scheduling.has been consistantly rude inpatient and disorganized. I called as dr morris requested if i didnt hear anything buy friday to get a surgery date for my daugter. after calling for days a person who does the scheduling finaly got back to me the next Thursday ". she gave me a date and i asked her what time the surgery will be.she said i would get the time the day before.when I told her it whould really help if i chould get a time sooner becuse im driving an hour from dugway she told me in a verry condescending manner that" She chouldnt and.as long as she has been working it has always been that in any hospital".and if thats not enough they called my husbands phone who never has service due do his work location wich is y my number is on file as primary wich is the number they have called in the past the day before my daughters confiermed surgery date telling us they have to move it after my husband took off work we booked a hotle so we would have to drive an hour out.and instead of being understang she told me that she called yesterday i told her my husbands number is not on file as primary she argued with me and said "It was and said things come up what do u want me to do cancel " if having a child that has to have surgery enough having to deal with this is too much.the rudness was horrible i did not deserve it!

This is the most unprofessional and dishonest practice I have ever been to! I have never written a poor or good review for any other doctor, but I am so beyond upset with this office that I don't want anyone else to experience what we did! My daughter did the cranial helmet with Dr. Schmelzer for plagiocephaly (flat head). At our first appointment, we asked 3 or 4 parents in the waiting room what they thought of their experiences.

They all were in agreement that they didn't love Dr. Schmelzer, but they thought Allen (the orthotist who makes the helmets) was good, so that's why they were still there. We should have listened to them. After 3 months of wearing the helmet, Dr. Schmelzer told us to remove the helmet at age 1 (without asking anything about her developmental milestones).

He didn't ask.but I didn't know I needed to tell him. She was developmentally delayed and was not crawling or walking. A month after removing the helmet, we took her in because the flat spot had gotten worse. Dr. Schmelzer arrogantly told me I was wrong and there was no way it had gotten worse (before he had even looked at her). Once he examined her, he kind of panicked and said the only way it could have gotten worse was if she was delayed developmentally. Well, she was and he had not taken time to ask that before it had gotten worse.

By then she was too old to continue treatment. We were so upset and wanted a second opinion from another doc. They had us get a second opinion with another doctor in their office (probably just trying to keep our business). The doctor admitted that Dr. Schmelzer had removed it prematurely and it would have not gotten worse had he known her delay and kept it on.

I spoke with the office manager, and they agreed to give us a 17% discount on what we paid. Super small percentage, but that's all they would offer. Well, it's been 3.5 months since that conversation and still no refund. And the office manager won't ever accept my calls or call me back. And to top it off, Dr. Schmelzer's final consolation was, "Well, if her hair is as thick as yours is, it'll cover the flat area and you'll never know." We didn't pay him just to have our daughter's hair cover what he was supposed to fix in the first place!
