The business plan was developed by Jacqueline D. Griffiths, M.D., and Darren Jones. Initially the plan was to provide only laser vision correction services to the greater Washington metropolitan area since the laser eye industry was growing in an exponential fashion at that time. It was determined that there was a void of any more personalized doctor-run practices which were more patient focused rather than business-focused in this area. That is when NewView was born. It quickly became apparent that patients bonded with Dr. Griffiths and her staff.

Jacqueline Deneen Griffiths, M.D., earned her undergraduate degree at Yale and her medical degree from the University of Michigan. Her ophthalmology residency was completed at Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. Griffiths has been in private practice since 1994. She started her own practice, NewView Eye Center, in 1999 where she serves as the Medical Director.
LASIK was approved as a vision correction procedure by the FDA in 1999. It is performed to help people with refractive errors in their eyes (nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism) see clearly without glasses or contacts. Millions of people have had LASIK worldwide and many of those have achieved 20/20 vision or better after the procedure.

The office administrator was abrupt, unfriendly, and just bordering on the verge of openly contemptuous. I found it unsettling when the doctor asked me if I ever wore glasses even though this practice prescribed them. Apparently this is a profession that requires no preparation. Finally, it was impossible to speak to the optician unless you had selected a frame style. I suppose the administrative gate keeper has been incentivized to limit those pesky patient questions. I'm setting off to find a new optometrist. You should too.

I recently had double cataract surgery with a bit of a complication dealt with by Dr. Griffiths. She did the job without pain or soreness. She does her homework. As does Office Manager Darren who keeps everything running smoothly. Best experience with a Dr. I have had in over 65 years, 3 foreign countries and 10 states. John

I highly recommend Dr. Griffiths. She is no-nonsense with an uplifting and soothing bedside manner. Her exams are extremely thorough and she doesn't stop examining until she gets reliable results to proceed further. Although, she is time-conscious, she never gets sloppy with examinations and treatments. The result of my first cataract surgery has been way beyond my expectations.
They are much better than the research I did on the procedure and the after-effects. I can't wait to get the second eye done. Her staff, for the most part, has been customer-service focused and welcoming. I have had two friends that have had nightmare cases of cataract surgery with other practices. One is reaching out to Dr. Griffiths for re-operation.

Highly recommended; I went to NewView Eye Center to have cataract surgery done 2 years ago. Dr. Griffiths performed the procedure and I have been extremely happy with my eyes every since. The whole team at New View Eye Center is professional and always courteous. Dr. Griffiths team at NewView Eye Center will try their best to get all questions answered and work with the insurance companies to the best of their abilities.
My follow-up exams have been awesome. I have not had any complications or concerns about my eyes -- I love my eyes! I highly recommend Dr. Griffiths and the services New View Eye Center offers to anyone in need of eye care.

I just moved to the area and needed new glasses. They charge for things they shouldn't but I got a good exam. The problem is with their very lacking frame selection and the extremely poor customer service. I need smaller frames due to the prescription. There were only a few to choose from. The office is in the basement so no phone calls or texts would go out.
The frames I selected are the most uncomfortable I've ever had. I asked to have the nose pieces replaced but they didn't have anything softer and said she would have to charge me for replacing them! REALLY? Then I had to go back 3 times for adjustments and told her they were very uncomfortable and I wanted to fry something else. Since I used my insurance I was stuck with these.
No offer to work with me on a replacement pair. NO CUSTOMER APPRECIATION AT ALL! So I went to Vision Works and bought 2 pairs for cash. While I was there I asked if they had softer nose pieces. They changed them out for me-no charge. I will make sure no one in my family, friends or acquaintances will ever buy glasses from this place-and head's up-everyone in my family wears prescription glasses and sunglasses. You lost a lot of repeat business due to the unbelievably poor customer service.

Be aware: Joyce, in the billing department, and Darren Jones (identified himself as the owner) are unhelpful and lack customer service experience. They gave me no information despite them knowing I had 3 insurances. I called my optometrist, she asked me to text the Medicare bill and took the time to explain and gave me help. I have cataracts so went to this business for an annual eye appointment expecting to pay a $10.00 copay as I am enrolled in a vision insurance plan. No.due to the cataracts they billed my medical insurance. Medicare only discounted the exam and so I was billed $189.38. Fortunately, Tricare, my second medical insurance paid the bill. I spent the entire day getting to the bottom of this. Dr. Nicholas gave a thorough exam, however her performance was overshadowed in working with the billing department.

I've been going here for a few years now but I think I'm done. Everything is kinda average. I go there for glasses/contact prescription and I've been fine with the end result all in all. HOWEVER, everytime I go they try to get me to change contact lens brands. I'm really happy with what I use but they want me to go with new lenses because "they supply more oxygen to the eye".
These new lenses they want me to buy aren't covered by my health insurance - so way more expensive - but I'm told they are better. Why do they keep wanting me to change brands when I say no? I mean I really get pressured to do so. I now realize what's up: they want me to go with another contact lens company because they probably have some sort of deal with that company, kinda how pharmaceutical reps and doctors team up on prescriptions they give to patients.
I have a contact lens brand I like which never cause me problems. Fit well and I see well out of them. This "these other lenses are better in supplying oxygen." is just baloney. They want me to change lenses for their sake, not mine. Please stop it!

Be aware: Exam was thorough however her performance was overshadowed by the lack of customer service in the billing dept. and "owner" of company. Having an additional vision plan, I went in thinking I would be paying a $10.00 copay. NO.Due to the fact I had an eye diagnosis (cataracts, in which I did not need surgery at this time), the bill was coded and billed to my medical insurance (Medicare).
I received a bill from this company for $189.83 which was "the Medicare approved amount" for me to be billed. Fortunately, I have a 2nd medical insurance that paid this bill. I am new to Medicare and they did not explain this to me. The "owner" said I signed a paper stating the difference between routine visits and medical visits. I asked him to send me this paper. He found out I did not sign paper. This was a 4 hour ordeal.

I had such a wonderful experience at New View Eye Center! What a wonderful staff, and office. Everyone was so friendly and so helpful. The office has modern equipment to ensure a thorough and precise exam. I met with Dr. Griffith and she was so patient, knowledgeable and helpful in answering all of my questions. I would highly recommend this office if you are in search of optometrist/opthamology services. Thank you so much New View for the great office visit.

After having LASIK, I found their follow-up care to be pretty bad. I experienced several eye issues a few weeks later, none of which I'd had before, and they told me it had nothing to do with the procedure and then charged me, without warning, because they were "medical" as opposed to being post-care follow up. Overall, bad customer service and not recommend as a result.

I have been using Dr. Griffiths as my Ophthalmologist for years. Always had great care from her. Little waiting time in the office and the staff is polite and does a great job. Dr. G did my cataract surgery several years ago and I had no issues. When I thought I was having a problem after the first eye, she was off for the day; but called me back immediately upon getting my call. Told me what to do and to call her back (gave me her number) if I still had issues. Can't do better than that. She always tries to get to the root of the problem. Highly recommend.

I gave this place 3 chances. Since the first visit I had to wait more than 40 minutes sometimes almost an hour. Yet, I find it annoying that they have a sign up front that says you will be charged a fee if you are late for an appointment. But found Dr. Oh I to be quite brash and really not friendly. I found the front desk to be a bit disorganized and I didn't like they don't give you an itemized receipt especially when I bought contacts, glasses frames.
I just got a little yellow carbon copy of the amount paid. So of course when I need to return glasses frames it made it harder for them to process. But the thing that happened twice to me was when I got a call to pick up my contact lenses. I was told I could just get from the front desk and I even asked if I needed an appointment; she put me on hold and came back with a no.
But when I got there they said I needed to make an appointment before I could get them. They tried to please me with a $5 Starbucks card but I was about to go on a trip so I couldn't even wear my new contacts. I had high hopes of the place from good reviews I read but really disappointed at lack of mis-communication and customer service.

Dr. Jacqueline Griffiths at NewView Laser Eye Center was truly exceptional. I had my first appointment with her yesterday, and both herself and her staff were friendly, thorough, and made me feel like I was special. I had been to 2 previous doctors for the issue I came in with, and it wasn't until I met with Dr. Griffiths, that I truly felt like I had been taken care of. I would recommend NewView Laser Eye Center to anyone looking for a doctor and staff with true expertise and elegance.

This was my first experience with an opthamologist. While I don't have much to compare her to, I can say that Dr. Griffiths provides a very thorough, professional and pleasant experience for her patients. She did not keep me waiting endlessly in the waiting room to see her, her staff is pleasant and friendly, and their alert system for appointment reminders is the best I have seen.
Her assistants are also very professional and knowledgeable, and equipment is state of the art. Dr. Griffiths took as much time as I wanted to explain her diagnosis to me, and she has an excellent bedside manner. I would highly recommend Dr. Griffiths and the New View Laser Eye Center to anyone needing an eye surgeon and eye health examination.

Avoid this place at all costs. I had Lasik done by Dr. Jacqueline Griffiths 4 years ago. While the office staff and technicians were great, my overall experience there was horrible. Despite going in for multiple preop appointments, I only met the actual dr that was performing the surgery for about 5 minutes the appt before the procedure. It was a very brisk meeting--handshake, some pleasantries, then she was gone.
It felt very impersonal. That should have been my first red flag, but I chalked it up to it being a busy practice. After the procedure, I noted at my postoperative appointments that my vision was improved but certainly not what I was expecting. I was told to liberally use eye drops and give it time. Flash forward to now. I have used eyedrops religiously since the lasik, expecting a gradual improvement, but nope.
I recently had an eye exam elsewhere, and imagine my surprise when they informed me that my vision was 20/70 (!) in my right eye, and only slightly better in my left. Yes, I have been driving illegally this whole time. I reached out to the office and was very rudely informed that I had to pay several thousand dollars for them to fix their mistake. Umm, didn't I already pay you all that much once?
They then suggested that I return for a "discounted" eye exam that was more expensive than the quote they give to new customers. This practice shows a complete indifference to customer service and an inability to stand by their work. Go at your own risk!

I had LASIK with Dr. Griffiths more than 10 years ago and the results were amazing. I had a short healing time and no complications. She is very professional, does a very thorough eye examination, and explains in detail what tests are being done and the purpose for each one. My vision is important so I don't mind a longer appointment to make sure my eyes are in great shape. Dr. Griffiths is one of the best.

Dr. Griffiths and her staff at NewView are a fantastic group of people. They are professional, yet warm. Interested, but not nosey. Efficient, but never rude or try to move one on and out. I really like how they treat each patient as a person. Dr. Griffiths expertly performed laser surgery on my tired old eyes, enabling me to SEE! (That night I literally ran around the house, laughing, reading everything.
But the next morning was the best - I could actually read the shampoo bottle label. Joy!) I have to say, I was not an easy patient. Though I had done my research carefully and selected Dr. Griffiths from among many choices, I was a total Nervous Nellie. She and her staff put me at ease, talking me through each step, completely preparing me for the procedure.
That was about 5 years ago. Since then she has become my regular ophthalmologist (why change when you find such a good thing?) and she has expanded her practice to help with those nasty aging facial issues. Leaving her office the other day after an exam and helpful wrinkle procedure, I realized how lucky I am to have Dr. Griffiths. I recommend her to all, without reservation or qualification.

Well.here I was thinking that I needed to get coke bottle glasses until Dr. Griffiths informed me I had cataracts. When I shared this information with one of my friends, she asked me how I've been driving. I replied. Very, very slowly. Just finished with my 2nd cataract surgery and I have 20/20 vision. Amazing! I haven't had that in over 50 years. Dr. Griffiths and her staff were wonderful at all steps of the process. Jan A.

I finally got over my fear and got LASIK. I've been susceptible to infections in my left eye for the past 25 years, once resulting in scared cornea. During my most recent battle, the Ophthalmologist at GW paraded the residents through to see an actual cornea ulcer. Evidently its rare. Needless to say, I've always really wanted LASIK, but was justifiably nervous.
Without fail, my left eye had complications after the procedure. But Dr. Griffith and her staff were super responsive and attentive to my case and I recovered nicely. No more glasses or contacts. So glad I choose NewView because they cared for me and my problematic left eye expertly and with compassion. Thank you for my NewView.

I just logged in to write a long over due review, unprompted, since my husband had Lasik done ten years ago. Dr. Griffiths performed the surgery, and my husband, all these years later, could not be more pleased. He had previously worn glasses most of his life. I was extremely surprised to see negative reviews, as our experience was so positive with Dr. Griffiths. I do not know anyone who works at this business or anyone that has ownership of any kind in this business.

I have been seeing Dr Griffiths and her staff for several years now. Have always gotten the best of treatment and service. Granted their frames and lenses seem to be a bit more expensive than Lenscrafters, but the time and effort I save by not having to go elsewhere is worth it. Plus my eye insurance helps. If there has ever been a problem, they fixed it quickly. I had cataract surgery by Dr. Griffiths with great success. I recommend her to anymore who would ask.

I had the lasik procedure done 5 years ago and have been going back to Dr. Griffiths and her staff since then. I am very pleased with the doctors, the service, and my procedure! My vision is still excellent.some blurriness but only when my eyes are tired and I still have some sensitivity to light.but other than that I am a happy shopper! I see Dr. G a lot around Reston and she always says hello.
It is nice to know your doctor remembers you and appreciates your business. When I had my procedure and for several years after that I would get a gift at every visit. I thought that was great customer service, and marketing as well! I highly recommend this practice and Dr. G.

I've been going to NewView for the past couple of years to get my vision checked and get some Botox done. I've had problems with their customer service three times already and today was the last time I will go to NewView Eye Center for my annual check up. Dr. Giffiths and her staff are SO slow in service. I had a 9am appointment this morning to get Botox and my annual vision check up.
I figured, since it was a morning apppointment and there was no one waiting in the room, that I would be out of there in a reasonable amount of time. No one got to me until 10am! That was ONLY after I got angry enough to make them actually do their job! I could tell by the receptionist's face and Dr. Giffiths face that they completely forgot about me (they had placed me in the back of the room where the fish tank is located).
This has happened to me twice now and I've had enough. I don't care of Dr. Giffith has all these awards in the DC area. Her service stinks and her staff are horrible. I will NEVER go back there again. They've lost my business. Also, I have great vision insurance yet they still "sneak in" costs, such as a "contacts fitting" that insurance does not cover. Dr. Simms NEVER fitted me for contacts.
So I had to pay $60 even though I have vision insurance. Beware of NewView Eye Center! They overcharge you for services that never occured and they give the poorest customer service out there.

Not enjoyable experience at all. The receptionist was very rude. I even sent them an email explaining my experience and they blamed me. Saying I tried to commit fraud when I just brought an old insurance card. I called the insurance company and let them tell the front desk that I had insurance because they wouldn't call. Then they said they would have to schedule me for another day (after I already took 2 hours off of work to go there). I'm sure the doctor is great but the staff you have to deal with before hand is very rude.

I totally recommend Dr. Simms or Dr. Griffith for your eye issues. I normally go to Dr. Simms. She's really sweet and incredibly patient. Listens to your problems and really helps. I know I can be a frustrating patient for eye doctors-- I have trouble letting anyone touch my eyes for any reason and I had trouble touching my own eyes. They're so incredibly patient and flexible, I know they could help anyone! Here's another plus-- in the waiting room they have free mints. Not like a single mint. a box of mints! Whenever I have an appointment there, I know there's nothing I need to be afraid of.
