Dr. Dina Strachan, is a phenomenal dermatologist and professional. She treated my skin for excessive dryness and performed electromagnetic laser treatment on my face. The process was easy and she has me looking 10 years younger. I trust her as a professional, and have every confidence that the results as always will be superb! I highly recommend her services and encourage all to seek her out if you have any challenge with respect to her exceptional dermatological talent. You will be pleased! RPL

I have waited a while to write this review to give Aglow Dermatology a chance, but please trust the other reviews. I did find them to be accurate after my experience at Aglow Dermatology. I was excited to finally find a dermatologist that specialized in melanated skincare as well. Although, Dr. Strachan was cordial upon meeting her, I can definitely understand where people felt as if she wasn't friendly or lacked a welcoming demeanor.
I received a chemical peel and although the treatment did work, I will not be returning to Aglow Dermatology. The appointment its self took less than 10-15 mins and I wasn't asked many questions regarding my medical history. I saw patients enter and exit the practice like hot cakes -- it seems as if appointments overlap / are back to back / are rushed.
As a previous Yelper stated, you will fill out an extensive amount of paperwork and including paperwork to put in your credit card information incase insurance does not completely pay and that you authorize them to use this card. I was not contacted by Aglow Dermatology and instead received a TEXT MESSAGE informing me that it's my final notice before my bill would be sent to collections.
I received ZERO phone calls, emails, or paper mail. I contacted the office via email (because I can never get through the phone line) and was informed that they would follow up with my insurance company and send me an update. Two months later, I never received an update except a notification from my bank informing me that I had been charged XXX amount from Aglow Dermatology.
This was very unprofessional. I have no issue resolving payments, but there was zero communication in the process. I emailed AD in which they responded that they had been trying to contact me. I have zero missed calls from them and only 1 text message (which was received after I initially emailed them regarding the charge on my CC) I was emailed my bill and accidentally sent other private information.
I believe this is the ONLY reason that AD reached out to me via phone -- to be sure that I did not disclose any of the private information that did not pertain to me instead of resolving my main issue. Once again, the level of professionalism is lacking. I have a choice in choosing many different dermatology offices worldwide and yet I chose AD, because I wanted to give a woman of color a chance, but I am extremely disappointed in my experience and will not be returning to this business in the future.
I will also like to mention that I was informed that my treatment would be fully covered by insurance by Dr. Strachan -- idk, if this is AD's issue or the insurance company's issue, but definitely double check your coverage if you do decide to give this business a chance.

Never big on writing reviews but if this helps someone make the best possible decision about skincare I'm willing to write. I was a new patient and my experience was far from pleasant. Front desk staff is very unorganized. I went back and forth multiple times regarding completed paperwork that had been previously submitted and yet staff continued to ask for the same.
Day of appointment, I was incredibly disappointed with Dr Strachan's bedside manner and overall lack of professionalism. As a new patient you would naturally think understanding a patients medical history and background would be discussed but instead she never addressed. I will admit she is knowledgeable in her profession however, her overall demeanor was rude and she speaks to you in a condescending manner when asked questions. Needless to say I will not be returning.

I am a new patient and the medical care I received from Dr. Strachan was excellent. At my initial visit, she addressed my primary issue and also other concerns. The quality of medical treatment I received was outstanding. Her staff is friendly, accommodating, and personable. I have not one complaint, not even parking, since there is reasonably priced lot, conveniently near the office. I highly recommend Aglow.

Awful establishment. Should be shutdown. I wish I had read the trusty yelp reviews beforehand but really wanted to believe in Dr. Strachan as it is often heard to find doctors in this specialty with knowledge of textured hair. I immediately felt belittled and berated by Dr. Strachan and my intuition told me this is just not the place for me. Do yourself a favor and understand that you deserve significantly better.
This is not the place you want to go. Period. Save your time and money. No wonder it was so easy to get an appointment, the clientele here is probably dwindling by the second because I can't imagine anyone who has their own best interest in mind spending more than one appointment here. It makes me sick to my stomach that doctors with such little compassion and actual care for their patients are able to continue their practice. Just don't go here please. Wish zero or negative starts was possible.

Really before you even waste your time visiting this place, do what I didn't do, and LISTEN to these reviews. Dr. Strachan irritable, condescending, and downright rude. You might be able to excuse the lack of bedside manner, if it's in sacrifice of great treatment, but alas, that was not at all the case with this doctor. She basically gets you to come in to charge your insurance and then tells you to go buy some stuff from the store. Stay far, far away.

Just left this office and all the reviews are accurate no matter how much time has gone by which speaks to this doctor's constructive criticism approach. I wanted to see a Black dermatologist as well to address a chronic autoimmune condition that isn't generally taken seriously. Not only did this doctor randomly start feeling upon my head without warning, she then proceeded to snap at me that, "she just said that" when she provided conflicting information about general success/failure cases and then the outlook for mine.
I was 'mmhmm'd about my medical history and challenged with folded arms because I participate in my care and have had unsuccessful results with a lot of heavy hitting treatment plans. I wasn't asked my pharmacy but I was given an informal treatment plan which does include products from her personal site for my freshly washed, but dry hair that her shop can cure.
There is absolutely no bedside manner, a result of studying all sciences but the social. This entire encounter was about 7 minutes long, maybe 5 minutes less than the wait I had when I showed up on time. I'm actually quite a bit in shock from all the unwavering staring, the unannounced touching, and the demeanor of "what do you think want me to do about this except keep scheduling you for follow ups". As if I'd follow up. Docs4Hair is a great directory but uh skip this practitioner

Aglow Dermatology is a wonderful place to visit. I was running late, I gave them a call and I was accommodated. The office was very calming and clean. The staff was very cordial. Dr Dina Strachan was very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Her bedside manner is impeccable, she answered my questions and explained to me what she was doing. I would recommend this office to anyone that asks, you will not be disappointed!

As I went to my first appointment everything was ok. I had a follow up appointment and missed it as a new mom going thru postpartum depression I have more bad days than good. So many different appointments hard to keep up with everything. However I was charged a whopping $75 for missing this appointment with no reminders I called about it and I was told I was sent 3 reminders I asked for a picture of those reminders to be emailed to me since I know there is no messages on my phone from this doctors office and I am still waiting.
To charge that amount in a pandemic where money is tight is insane. I get that my personal issues are not theirs however be personable and understanding. It is not as like I miss every appointment as this is only my second one. Allegedly the $75 covers supplies used for my appointment that could've been for another patient as I was told the strange thing is only supplies that would've been used was the paper over the bed and since I didn't make the appointment why would you not be able to use it and I'm sure it doesn't cost $75.
I am incredibly disappointed I do not recommend. Money rules the world so much so that not even a doctor is human and understands real life takes place they just operate off of money money money! If you read the negative reviews their response is completely combative and full of excuses. Smh sad

UPDATED REVIEW: Aglow Dermatology is an amazingly sad business and the worst 'doctor's office' I have ever been to. After posting my review, which then clearly monitor closely so they can further abuse people, I was sent a USPS certified letter saying that dr strachan is 'withdrawing from further professional attendance upon me' as of today. Now. I'm not sure what made anyone at this office believe that I would ever even consider coming back to this office after my original review, so I'm not sure why they wasted the money and effort on sending me this letter. Except, it's par for the course of my experience with them. First, what doctors office has a form letter saying that they will no longer treat you? Second, what kind of petty, BS business is this 'doctor' running to have time and energy to troll Yelp and respond in this way? Third, I haven't laughed so hard in a long while, so thank you aglow dermatology for sending me this little gem!

DO NOT GO TO THIS OFFICE IF YOU NEED AN ACTUAL DERMATOLOGIST! This office visit was the worst I have ever experienced. I'm surprised at the number of people they were able to pay to post up good reviews here on Google. I filled out paperwork and submitted everything a week in advance, only to be told when I got there that the receptionist never downloaded it.
They don't answer their telephone. The 'doctor' is rude and and completely devoid of any sensibility for people coming in for medical help. She condescendingly responds to questions, saying things like she wouldn't recommend treatment that doesn't work, when asked how effective that treatment is. On the flip side, she knew the exact price of every procedure that I asked about and also knew exactly what Health Insurance I had and what they pay for.
I also wrote a full review on Yelp saying that no one should go to this office and subsequently received (a month after posting my review) a letter in the mail saying that she would no longer be my doctor.like I would ever actually go back there, ever! This office left me with such a bad feeling that I have to post reviews! It's unfortunate that as a professional Black woman myself I feel the need to warn people against another (allegedly professional) Black woman, but that's how bad the experience was. DO NOT BOOK AN APPOINTMENT HERE! *The only reason I gave 1 star is because I can't give poop pile emoji's as a rating.

Do not go here! Very unprofessional. I was completely removed from their schedule because THEY failed to text me paperwork for me to sign beforehand. No phone call or text to let me know my appointment was canceled. Wasted my early morning commuting to their office just to be turned away. Unbelievable!

My visit to Dr. Stratchan at Aglow was enfuriating. The doctor spent literally no more than 5 minutes with me, and didnt even ask about my medical history or what I had tried in the past. As a black woman I had high hopes this dermatological experience would be different, but it was far from it. The doctor is smug, rude, and uninterested in individual patients, more focused on turning patients.
To top it off the consultation room seemed dusty and the doctor had crusty skin, like sis what wisdom are you imparting, cause. I should have gone up and left, but never ever ever again!

Stay away from this business! My entire experience with them has been completely terrible. Before you even consider them, look at their reviews, there's a reason they are so extremely poorly rated. In my own experience, I had the doctor cancel my appointment just 2 hours before the appointment, the secreterial staff is inefficient, my PCP doctor whom I have been with for years sent a referral to them and my doctor always sends referals immediately so I found it odd Aglow kept insisting they didnt have it, they even canceled my appointment because supposedly they hadn't received it, when in reality it had been sent to them days prior.
After canceling my first appointment, because their doctor had a personal issue come up, they let me know only by text, and didnt even bother bringing up the issue of rescheduling my appointment. I had to do it. That alone shows you the level of professionalism and customer service given at Aglow. Furthermore, after I did make an appointment, I wasnt able to make it because of the hurricaine and trains were out, so my appointmentneeded to be rescheduled.
Then the following appointment I couldnt make because of personal reasons. Now they want to charge almost a hundred dollars fee for not keeping the appointment. I explained to them that they should waive this fee since the only reason I had the appointment was because their own doctor canceled my original appointment because of her personal reasons.
They figured since they let it slide last time I couldnt make it, meaning the time their was a national HURRICAINE EMERGENCY, that we were even. That is not only ridiculous, but they never informed me of any fee being waived etc. So how is it that all these financial decisions are being decided by them and not informing the patient. This place is my biggest medical regret. So duplicitous, unethical, and uncaring especially during these times. 0 stars is what this place deserves.

Staff was very friendly and efficient. However I was extremely disappointed with my experience with the doctor. I specifically wanted to see a woman of color who might better understand my skin. The appointment was very impersonal and rushed. She answered my questions as if I was asking stupid questions, yet they were things I needed to know about my skin, or specific procedures that could help my condition.
She also kept pushing this medication on me that was previously used to treat high blood pressure and is now used for acne. I have a family full of doctors and nurses and they were all upset at the recommendation. I was looking for naturals ways to help my condition, Instead of medicine that came with a million side effects. Her customer service was very poor and I felt like another paycheck instead of a patient.

Dr. Strachan and her staff are superb. They are courteous and professional. Dr. Strachan is skilled in caring for and treating melanated skin. Being that she is an Ivy League educated black woman dermatologist in NYC, I feel that I have found my very own unicorn. I'm so grateful that she is in network with my insurance but, if she wasn't, I would gladly pay out of pocket.
Prior to my initial visit, I was furnished with a patient questionnaire on which I was able to list all of my concerns. So, when I arrived at Dr. Strachan's office, I was suffering from several skin issues on various parts of my body. Dr. S examined me from head to toe, addressing each and every concern that I listed on the questionnaire~ even the ones that I had forgot.
She formulated a comprehensive treatment plan and placed me on my journey to healthy, glowing skin that same day. My subsequent appointments are all carried out virtually, which is super convenient for me and my schedule. I will be a patient for life and I recommend Aglow dermatology to all.

Dr. Strachan's practice is without a doubt, the worst doctor's office I have ever dealt with. My daughter had an appointment for her acne. I'm recovering from surgery so my father took her. When I scheduled the visit, they sent me a thick packet of paperwork (no problem), and I listed my preferred pharmacy. When my dad got there the doctor told him that she was going to send a script to a "special" pharmacy.
My dad accepted, but once I got wind of it, I called and requested the change. They told me I would have to call both pharmacies and initiate a script transfer. I refused, as THEY decided to change the pharmacy. Furthermore, their "preferred" pharmacy stopped manufacturing the medication over a year ago. What ensued was a week long back and forth (with spotty/shabby) communication where they refused to honor my request and kept referring me to their "preferred" pharmacies-all of which are in the City and I live in Brooklyn.
I kept asking to speak with the doctor, and that was never honored. Since they NEVER pick up the phone, my dad and I would alternate trying to reach them. Finally, my dad got through and had to literally call out their shady business practice of routing people to specific pharmacies. He indicated that he was going to report their unethical business practices and then all of a sudden Dr. Strachan magically had time to call me in an attempt to chastise me and my dad.
When I tried to provide information about what had transpired for an entire week, she snidely cut me off and indicated that she was not "interested in the details". I then told her that all I wanted was confirmation that they actually sent the script to my preferred pharmacy and she confirmed and then hung up on me. To make matters worse, one of her "preferred" pharmacies quoted me a price of $25 for the script and my preferred pharmacy told me I had no copay at all.
This reeks of kickbacks. The reviews that point out shady behavior regarding pricing and a nasty doctor with a horrible bedside manner are all accurate. After she hung up on me I sent a text to their office and indicated that she was rude and unprofessional. They actually attempted to go back and forth with me. I couldn't be bothered and told them we'd just have to agree to disagree. I was not going to stoop to their level. It's clear this place is a mess and it starts at the top, with their "leader."

Not only does Dr Strachan have the best credentials and seek to provide best in class treatment, she focused on my personal concerns and did exceptional work on my two teenagers along with me. She took time and effort to answer all the questions regarding my children's severe acne as well as ease my concerns about the treatment I sought. If you are seeking a dermatologist for a family with various skin conditions requiring on going treatment or an evaluation, then I strongly recommend Dr Strachan.

The Coldest doctor I've had. She doesn't take the time to explain and made me feel like I was bothering her for asking questions. I'm so disappointed as I was really hoping to find a solution. No wonder why it was so easy to get an appointment with her. Both times I went, her office was empty. In two visits I probably saw her for a total of 3 minutes. What a waste of my time and money! I certainly won't be going back.

It was a pleasure to be treated by Dr. Strachan. I found her to be pleasant, with great bedside manner. She was super helpful in ensuring that my insurance covered my procedure. The wait time was normal for any doctors office. The entire staff was a pleasure to deal with. I was very concerned about the procedure, if it would be uncomfortable. Dr. Strachan and her team took great care of me, and my chemical peel was over before I knew what was happening. I am definitely going back to Dr. Strachan If I need a dermatologist in the future.

Dr Strachan was horrible. Very rude, condescending, dismissive and insulting. I tried to get more detail on her answer and she just rudely repeated exactly what she said. She called my hair brittle (when it's not) and just wanted to throw medicine on me and rush me out! At end of appointment she said see u next month and I smiled and as soon as she closed the door I said to myself Oh no you won't! I would definitely not recommend her unless you're in the mood for conflict or subtle abuse! Extremely poor bedside manner.

I went to Aglow Dermatology for years - the service provided was nothing special, and in fact was kind of a pain. Long wait times, only to be rushed through your appointment (most of the time with a nurse or assistant, rarely ever meeting directly with Dr. Strachan). Messy billing and scheduling, can never get through to speak with someone directly.
But I kept going because they accepted my insurance and were located near my work. I recently got a ding on my credit report, and only caught it because I monitor it regularly - Aglow Dermatology sent a 2 year old bill (a measly $85) to collections. I checked their online portal where I pay the medical bills - NO history of this charge at all. I went through all my mail, I've received a bunch of (paid) bills and EOBs from Aglow, but none for this amount.
No record of them emailing me, calling me, or leaving a voicemail. They did nothing to flag this charge and if they did, they certainly didn't try hard enough. It doesn't look like they tried at all. Since there's nothing in the online portal, I can't even pull up what appointment or service this was for. I just paid it to get it over with, but 2 years ago I had an HRA that would have covered the cost in full. I'm so annoyed. Never going back here again. Trust the low rating on Yelp, they are not worth it.

I mean really I've been coming here since I was 17 years old, and I'm 25 now. I missed one appointment and got sent a 4 paragraph letter basically telling me how terrible of a person I was for missing the appointment and putting her ENTIRE practice behind schedule. I'm aware of Dr. Dina's reputation, but honestly I have many doctors on her "credential level" who have not written such ridiculous letters in my life.
The absolute egotistical behavior is baffling. Furthermore on the bill it says "REFUSED TO PARTICIPATE" I have never seen this written on a bill in my entire life. Absolutely unbelievably absurd, the practice will get their $75 but never going back. Bye.

I have been going to Aglow Dermatology for over 5 years now and my experience has always been great. My teenage son is now a patient and I extremely pleased with his treatment. Dr. Strachan and her staff are simply the best. They are warm, friendly, polite and very courteous. I would highly recommend Aglow Dermatology.
